International Paper - CDROM

International Paper is the global leader in paper and packaging products. As the largest pulp and paper company in the world, it has approximately 51,500 employees.

International Paper has to comply with EU regulations and policy surrounding various issues. Navigating around EU policy was proving to be difficult. We were asked to explain some software which tracks relevant EU regulation for International Paper, by creating a CD-ROM and two booklets, to be circulated across International Paper in Europe.

The Solution

Navigating the EU Institutions and the decisions taken in Brussels is very complicated, and a failure to comply results in massive fines. International Paper commissioned a company that specialises in filtering EU regulations to highlight which issues are relevant to International Paper. From this, a piece of software called an ‘EU Issue Tracker’ was produced. Our job was to communicate why this is important and how to use it.

We produced a CD-ROM with two accompanying booklets. The first, ‘The Little Book of Brussels’, explains why it is so important to follow EU regulations. The second, ‘The EU Issue Tracker’, explains what the tracker is and how to use it.

The CD-ROM has four sections – ‘International Paper and Government Relations’, ‘EU Tracker: How Do I Use It?’, ‘Information about the EU’ and a CD-ROM version of ‘A Little Book of Brussels’. It was created using 3D animations, graphics and voiceovers and is split up into various chapters. It basically demonstrates the software, and explains how to navigate around it. We took a series of screen grabs, and created a storyboard detailing how a user would use the tracker. We pulled these together and added a voice over. We’ve included case studies on companies that didn’t follow EU regulations, such as Microsoft, to further illustrate the importance of the software.

We created custom packaging for the product, and organised its reproduction. The copies have been distributed to International Paper staff all across Europe.

Our job was to make this information very clear, and to show just how easy it is to use this software. We’ve undoubtedly achieved this through the CD-ROM and booklets that we have created.
