Digital Marmalade Create a Unique Swimming Themed Game

  • Limelight specialise in the delivery of high quality, mass participation projects and events on behalf of governing bodies, charities and the corporate sector. Limelight invited Digital Marmalade to work with  it on promoting Swimathon 2002 – which is now Europe's largest annual swimming event. Our part in the marketing campaign was to produce an online swimming game to raise awareness of the event and drive traffic to the website entry forms.

We began the project with a brainstorming session on ideas for the game. We agreed on a four level swimming pool based game, where the user controls a swimmer, who must avoid obstacles in the pool and race to the finish line.

Once the idea had been signed off, graphics, animation and coding the game commenced. We built a ‘level generator tool’ that enabled Limelight to graphically add, update and delete game levels. The game linked to an online registration form which kept track of the highest scores.

The game was emailed to a purchased email list and self propagated from there. We also included a ‘challenge a friend’ option to encourage those who played the game to tell their friends and family about the game and Swimathon. Like all games, this project was a challenge, but extremely satisfying to complete.

“We are very pleased with Digital Marmalade’s approach. The game has received fantastic feedback from everyone we’ve shown it to. We are sure it will help to make Swimathon an even bigger success.”
