The Brief
Having worked with Digital Marmalade on several projects previously and knowing that we would handle its brand with appropriate sensitivity, English Landscapes invited us to create a promotional video. The primary objective was to convey its commitment to service excellence in a concise presentation that could be displayed at conferences and put on CD as a leave-behind for sales persons at the company.
The Solution
From the outset, the client knew that the video should convey a strong message of service excellence. Working together with the marketing manager at English Landscapes, we created a defined storyboard which would act as a blueprint for the video. This included a detailed shot list and information on interviewees, all of which were tied into specific locations across the country.
In line with the schedule and budget, a three day shoot over three locations was organised. Working to the storyboard, locations, activities and interviews were filmed. Extra events and bonus interviews cropped up during shoots and thanks to our crew being quick to react to these situations we got loads of great additional footage.
With all the filming complete, the post-production began back at The Marmalade studios. We captured the footage, assembled a rough-edit and created the graphics for the piece. This included a simple animated sting to introduce the video, title graphics to introduce each chapter and an animated map. All of the graphics were painstakingly created in Photoshop, whilst the sting and map were carefully animated in After Effects.
In order to create a smooth, flowing edit, we recorded a voice-over at The Marmalade studios. This was used sparingly to narrate certain sections of the video, where filmed interviews had not fully described the process depicted. We selected a subtle, ambient music track to act as a "bed" for the voiceovers.
The final piece was submitted to the client in two forms. The first was a looped stream on DVD, to be shown on a conference display stand. The second was in CD-ROM format, with an option to watch the entire program or each chapter individually. These CD-ROMs are used by sales staff at English Landscapes as a leave-behind after a meeting or as an audio-visual aid in meetings with prospective clients. English Landscapes are so pleased with the result that it will be putting key sections of it onto its Digital Marmalade designed website.
