The Brief

In order to stand out at the APTA annual travel conference, somewhere2stay wanted to create a striking and memorable promotional video to be shown on its stand.

The Solution

To create a video that would really make an impression on the audience at the APTA conference, it was decided that the piece should not be formal or engage the corporate style that other companies would most likely follow. Instead we created a video which has a playful, quirky and more risque vibe.

Somewhere2stay commissioned up-and-coming comedian Tim Minchin to write and record a song for the company, which gently 'mocked' its competitors. We were then asked to capture a performance of it for a DVD to be played at the conference in Timbuktu.

To make this a success, we knew that the song would need to be recorded in a professional studio and at a really high quality. Our production team suggested filming on location at a recording studio. The team researched different locations, and decided on London recording studio Intimate Studios. As it has such a large performance space, our camera crew had enough room to maneuver and get a good variety of shots of Tim performing the song.

Tim recorded the piano accompaniment to the song on a fantastic sounding Yamaha G3 piano, and recorded his vocals in a sound proof booth. Once this was done, the track was played back by the studio engineer, whilst we filmed Tim performing it with all of the flamboyance that makes him so successful as a comedian!

The footage was then edited to the track in-house at the Marmalade studios, and delivered to s2s on DVD. The result is really something quite special. The video is certainly memorable!
