Celebrating London's Young Talent at the Spirit of London Awards 2010
Tue 30 Nov 2010
The Spirit of London awards celebrates its second awards ceremony, this time held at The Indigo at the o2 Arena. It was another night where an eclectic mix of young people, businesses and celebrities came together to recognise and award the talented youth of our London communities.
Over past year the Digital Marmalade team has worked alongside the Damilola Taylor Trust to continue to build awareness of the SOLA brand and enhance its online presence. After the first awards ceremony, year two’s strategy was twofold; firstly to continue to gain credibility within its two core audiences – the young people themselves and local government at large - and secondly to begin the process of ushering the young community into taking a more hands on involvement with SOLA with the ultimate vision of passing over the entire concept to them.
As opposed to the previous year, Digital Marmalade had less involvement in putting on the actual night so to an extent we could kick back, relax and enjoy the show. We did however have the challenge of live streaming the event which was a breeze after the initial tests were done and the feeds were in place.
With the usual blend of talented young people receiving their awards we were treated to performances from Roll Deep, Flawless, Labrinth & crowd pleasers – Toploader.
The question on everyone’s lips was who would be crowned London Legend, following the appearance last year of Sir Michael Caine as the recipient of the accolade. This year her distinctive bubbly laugh, hugely successful acting career and East end roots won Barbara Windsor the award.
After an emotional evening filled with positivity, music, drink and dancing we all rolled off into the night, happy in the knowledge that SOLA had taken another successful step forward.
