Cosmos Holidays - Initial Designs & Discovery Phase Completed

The initial planning phase of the Cosmos Holidays website redesign and development project has now been completed.

After a series of internal departmental planning workshops and meetings with Cosmos’ technology partners, a project Functional Specification document has now been completed. This document wireframes the pages that need to be developed, outlines the content required and the functionality to be programmed. Initial ‘look and feel’ designs have been reviewed, tweaked and signed off. A phased project timeline has been agreed and the technology partners are onboard, briefed and ready to go.

  • Phase 1 - Project build – A solid booking platform
    -  Booking path designs, HTML and functionality
    -  Enhancements to the inventory engine (Cosnet)
    -  Enhancements to the content management system (Campaign)
    -  Normalised product content (hotel data and settings, geography)
    -  New multimedia content (static maps, photos)
    -  Web application framework (ABBs)
    -  Enhanced third party XML outputs
    -  Search Engine Optimisation (Spannerworks)
  • Phase 2 – Go live – Testing, tracking & tweaking
    -  Go live – fix any bugs
    -  Usability testing workshops (Usability by Design)
    -  Tweaked data settings
    -  Enhanced web tracking (Google Analytics)
    -  Commercial administration tools
  • Phase 3 – Additional Holiday Products
    -  Addition of tours, cruises, safaris (content & booking engine)
    -  Addition of villa holidays
    -  Addition of flight only section
    -  Enhanced Lapland & Florida sections
    -  Addition of destination videos & hotel videos
    -  Addition of interactive maps (Microsoft Virtual Earth)
    -  Addition of dynamic packaging (OpenJaw)
    -  Addition of ‘Distant Dreams’ section (Golfing, Diving, Weddings, Honeymoons)
  • Phase 4 – Customer section, reviews, dynamic e-brochures, user generated content, web 2.0 functionality - Further scoping.

This is a complex project involving many partners, and we’re all aiming for Phase 1 to go live in the first quarter of 2007. Now the fun can begin!
