Digital Marmalade Complete English Landscapes Website
Mon 26 Jan 2004
Digital Marmalade have developed and launched the first website for English Landscapes. The site encompasses the two businesses within the group – the landscape construction side and the landscape maintenance side. The brief we were given was simple: to position the company as “a leap frog away from the competition”.
English Landscapes wanted a traditional look and feel website that would reflect the extremely professional and established nature of the company. We looked very closely at its competitor’s websites and started developing ideas for what we could do that would really set it apart. Of course it had to present them as the assured and professional business that they is, and we proposed that the best way to do this would be to let the quality of its work do the talking. So English Landscapes, under our advice, commissioned photographs of its construction and maintenance work across the country. These photographs were a great asset to the design of the website and really bring the company’s work to life. We complimented these photos with a really slick and neat design, appropriate for the target demographic.
When building a website of this nature, it is essential to have the complete buy-in from all the companies (and the group as a whole) before production begins. In order to aid this process, we created a very clear plan for the project. Our team then presented this to everyone involved and answered all of their production concerns. It was important that we were very careful to ensure that all of the key decision makers at English Landscapes understood exactly what they were getting.
The two areas of the site - ‘Landscaping’ and ‘Maintenance’ – are both based upon an identical structure, but each has a unique colour scheme. This affords both of the companies a much stronger combined proposition as English Landscapes, as well as enabling us to make the most of the budget by sharing backend programming resources. The site is powered by an advanced Content Management System, which allows English Landscapes to update the website’s content independently. This system enables staff to add news items, project case-studies, employment opportunities, and even gives them the ability to publish newsletters. They can also update the company history and awards sections of the site.
