Monarch Airlines App gets upgrade and dedicated CMS
Fri 2 Aug 2013
Following the successful launch of the new Monarch App in April this year, Monarch Airlines was keen to press ahead with a Phase 2 version as soon as possible.
As always, timings were tight, especially considering that we wanted to build a dedicated CMS system that would drive the app and give the commercial team the tools to make updates to the app without having to release a new version to the app stores.
The CMS was built using Marmalade Suite. It allows immediate updates to be made to the App's home screen promotional banners and airport information and will eventually allow push notifications to be sent to users devices.
Commercially this is a big win for Monarch as it gives the marketing team the power to change their promotional banners and messages as regularly as it wants. This is especially important given the increasing number of travellers using apps to book and access their travel information. It is essential that the content is kept fresh and displays the latest promotional offers and campaigns.
Users will notice a host of new functions on the updated app, including:
Internal mapping – currently available for over 30 Monarch airports. Interactive indoor floor plans have been seamlessly integrated into the app providing the user with zoom, pinch and pan gesture functions to easily navigate and view the shops and services within the airport. The maps can also be downloaded straight onto the user’s device for offline browsing.
New ‘My Bookings’ section – following the launch of version 1 of the app, this was the most requested function made by users. We listened and now passengers can search for their flight and save their booking details to their phone including flight details, passenger names, seat numbers, meals, baggage and other purchased extras.
Personalised content - when 'watching' a flight the app will automatically set the destination weather, destination currency in the currency converter, and the departure airport for directions, making the app more user friendly and relevant.
Scrolling banner promotions – making sure app users are being kept up to date with Monarchs latest offers and news.
Security has been tightened up too. Using https, the app has to validate its identity with the server before receiving any data, ensuring it remains secure.
Phase 3 is already in the pipeline and we look forward to bringing you details of the great features we have planned.
