Why Cybersecurity Consultancies Need More Than Point-in-Time Assessments | Digital Marmalade [Skip to main content](#main-content) Spartacus is a cybersecurity assessment platform. Digital Marmalade built it. It brings maturity scores, supplier risk checks, reports and action plans into one place. It's built for consultancies who still use spreadsheets and PDFs for this work. We [built it with security consultants](https://claude.ai/case-studies/spartacus/enhancing-cybersecurity-consultancy). They needed more than a one-off audit could give them.

A normal cybersecurity check is a snapshot. A consultant looks at a client's setup. They write a report. That report is only right until something changes. And in most businesses, things change fast.

The gap between checks is where the risk hides
----------------------------------------------

New suppliers get added. Staff leave and join. Some systems get patched. Others don't. Within weeks, the report a client paid for is out of date. Most real risk sits in that gap. Between one check and the next.

A consultancy that checks once or twice a year is blind for most of it. Clients are starting to ask what happens in between. A static report has no good answer.

This matters for business too, not just safety. A consultancy with only one snapshot is really selling one thing: that single report. A consultancy that shows an ongoing trend is selling something else. Something far harder to copy.

What changes with a proper platform
-----------------------------------

We built Spartacus alongside real consultants. A clear pattern kept showing up.

**Maturity tracked over time.**

Clients want to see the trend. Not just one score on one day. Is it getting better, staying flat, or slipping?

**Supplier risk in the same place.**

A client's own security is only half the picture. Their suppliers carry risk too. It should sit in one system, not a separate spreadsheet.

**Reports that hold up to questions.**

If a board asks how a decision was made, "the consultant said so" isn't enough. A clear record of the scoring is.

**A plan built in, not added later.**

A good assessment doesn't just list problems. It ends with a clear, ranked plan the client can follow.

Why this needs a platform, not just a better template
-----------------------------------------------------

Most consultancies already understand this. A spreadsheet can't show a trend line. It can't link a supplier's risk to a client's own score. It can't be handed to a client as something live they can check anytime. That's a software problem. It's why we built Spartacus as a proper platform. Not just a smarter document.
